Dark Hermione
Got to work today, sometime before the sun managed to meander its way above the horizon, to find that one of my mass specs took a shitter and blew the vacuum system...10K later, I'm over budget for the month and I'm probably waiting until after Christmas for parts.

Sigh, Its not like I wanted to do anything today anyway. My to do list is only 3 pages long in Outlook, after all.

On another front, I really miss having a story running on PK (and yes, I know that Shadows is still running), so look for something(s)...soon. Also I'm currently deep into a Christmas one-shot for the HiH Christmas exchange, and it keeps going, and going, and going...There will be Christmas presents for my fans up there, that I promise, one way or another, and very possibly here.

On that note, once again, if there are any artists out there that have nothing better to do, Circle would dearly love some fan art....Please, pretty please....

I'm cautiously optimistic about Eargon, there have been a few panning reviews, but I'm hoping they are mostly from the crowd that only has a vague knowledge of the existence of books.

Anyway, I'm tired and I still have like an hour and a half, at least to go...

Well, actually I've read a lot of books that aren't fanfic. But I've really fell in love with the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher recently. A couple of reviewers described the series as Harry Potter as if it were written for an adult audience. I don't know if I'd go that far as I consider HP to be written for adults, probably even more so than kids, at least the subtext...Possibly even the subtext that the author forgot or ignores she's written.

The protagonist is named Harry though...

On another note, back on the Fanfiction front, I'm really impressed with Forever Knight on Portkey. Normally, I'm a little leary of the change the main characters to Vampires/Werewolves/Giant Squids, not because I don't think it's a valid plot choice, especially in the magical realm, but that it's often done as a gimmick without using it to its upmost.

It's not in this one, this one uses the device to develop the characters, to give them depth and color. And besides, the fic has a lot of sex and violence, and both are handled and written well.

Back in my universes, which have spun onto the other side of the sun from their mother, work progresses. Except for a few inane reviews, Circle's End is doing pretty good. There are many secrets there, we'll see how many are found.

This is most a rant about SciFi/Fantasy/Fanfic so if you don't read that, just ignore me.

Well as of a day or so ago, my current opus, HP and the Circle's End, http://fanfiction.portkey.org/story/4941 , is done barring the completion of one added scene. 60 chapters, 410K words later, the cesspool of insanity, hormones and love potions that was HBP is fixed.

With that, when I posted the latest chapter I got a flame...now it wasn't the only one I've ever gotten, by any means, but he basically insulted my beliefs, talent, sanity, whatever...who cares, he's an asshole...

But it bring up one point that I wish to question. One of his "points" was that it was improbable, unlikely, insane, whatever, that I made the main characters powerful.

What is this fear that I often see with making the characters powerful enough to do what they need to do, I've seen it with so many fanfics in HP where Harry is frankly a wimp, and wins through luck, luv or some asinine plot device. What's wrong with a little arse kicking? It's the same thing that was seen in many of the Expanded Universe Star Wars novels, in that so many of the authors seemed afraid to use Luke to what his abilites should have been...People, Jedi, mages (I.E. Dumbledore/Voldemort/Harry/Gandalf),whatever are supposed to unbalance the field. They are the BFG (That's Big Fucking Gun for those of you not in the know) of the universes they are in.

You Modify the plot, use superior numbers, whatever to balance them out, you don't neuter them...

Just my thoughts, feel free to disagree.

Harriet and Em
I haven't posted in a bit, but thought I would, especially after the nasty ass storm that went through last night.  It spiked a friend of mine's house and shocked/scared the shit out of his wife.

Anyway,[info]ladybluestar was posting some of her icons that she had made up, with H/HR and R/LL and alluding to making some for The-Sequel-That-Does-Not-Exist  AKA HP and the Other Side of the Looking Glass, the sequel to HP and the Circle's End, my current year 7 book, so I thought, hey...How about a cookie from Looking Glass...

If you are paying attention, this could give away a touch of the end of Circle.  Which is linked here:
