30th-Aug-2007 08:09 pm - Why? and other ramblings.
Dark Hermione
Ok, as I am sitting here, alone on a Thursday...I think it's Thursday, I'm watching game shows.

I just want to know, why in the name of all that is holy that now we seem to have to either scream out the answer, or explain your reasoning behind your answer...especially when your rumblings show how dumb you are. Come on people, you never yelled on Jeopardy.

As to other things, I recently finished Vorpal Blade by John Ringo and Travis Taylor. Good read, especially if you like high energy physics with your bit of reading. I started in on A Desert Called Peace after that, but I am sure that there are those that wouldn't like that...it's a bit too much anti-CNN for that. Just like me.

I also have the new Star Wars book sitting here next to me, but Bantam has almost ruined that license, maybe Baen or Tor really will get it next and hopefully one of those publishing houses.

Otherwise, a friend of mine moved on to another job last night though still with the same company, yeah, we're spread out, and it only makes me wonder if it's time to move on. I've been here for a while now, maybe it's time to take another job, but then again, maybe not.

Ok, just to make it plain, I still have yet to even purchase the book, though I already know most of the supposed plot points....and for not wanting to make it Star Wars...Luke and Leia *cough, cough* you did a decent job....

But today, I'd like to talk about 2 other annoyances...Pringles and Tractor Rides.

Pringles.

Ok, am I the only one who buys a can of Pringles and gets them home and they are crushed....Seriously, this is Why we buy Pringles in a can so they will be all chip-like and not random bits of potato confetti...is it too much to ask to actually get the damn can to work properly.

Tractor Rides.

Not all of you have to deal with this, I know. But here, in Iowa, it is the fashion to take your tractor, usually an antique that only can go like 5 miles an hour, out on the highway and drive it along. This is also usually part of a group of tractors that go in a convoy, thereby blocking traffic for miles and causing a 3 minute drive to take like 30 minutes. Seriously, they are effing Tractors drive them through fields if you feel the urge to see if they still go. If it was like a tank I'd understand.

Going back to DH for a moment, I have descided to buy the book, cut out the "epilogue" and shoot it, and post pictures. Stay tuned.

But if I did, I'd have to have a stroller like this one here :http://www.thingamababy.com/baby/2007/06/atatstroller.html

There is always a need to tower over those tiny rebels strewn about the floor.

Yep, I'm bored at work
27th-May-2007 07:04 pm - Why the surrender....
wands and comp
TTo begin with, I was going to write about Memorial Day, a weekend these days whose origin has been mostly forgotten, that to honor our hallowed dead, whose sacrifice over the years has kept many of you free to complain about how things are run.  Be very, very grateful that you can.  For many in the world, they are just now gaining that right, and still others have yet to gain that right. But I find that I can not without degrading this into a rant against asinine and unthinking liberalism...

Not that I agree with many of the points of view of the other side as well...

So I will not go there now, so lets talk about one of my other favorite topics, the vagaries of fiction, and lets look once more at HP, as it is the topic of the moment, and I have a vested interest in it, having written a few books there.

Ok, those that don't care about Potter and the universe therein tune out.

9th-May-2007 06:24 pm - Writing and cuteness...
Harriet and Em

I was reading through some of the sites that I normally glance through at work (one has to choose carefully or they will ban them) and found this interview by David Weber on SciFi.  http://www.scifi.com/sfw/interviews/sfw15625.html

In this he talks about writing, and how writers should both not think themselves better than their readers and should pay attention to the readers' comments, as they just might have noticed something that the author may  not have realized about their own works.  Though the end part was dissapointing in that there does not seem to be a main-line Honor Harrington or Prince Roger book coming any time soon

Also just to prove that I'm not all about sex and violence as some might think from my own writing, I present cuteness....Hidden behind the cut for those of you who can't stand cuteness.

Harry/Hermione
New news today...all 12 million copies of Deathly Hallows will be printed on recycled paper.

Hopefully she'll actually make it not a waste of ink and paper, though I'm not holding my breath.   Since the last one...not so much.

On another note, has anyone, besides me, seen the "Hermione" on G4TV on the dish, on their "geek fantasies" vinette...Trying to make sure that I'm not going insane.  Let's just say that if you haven't that she's lost any "ugly duckling" issues long since.   Though frankly, most of that was gone, imho, in canon about book 3.

I have also, rediscovered my problems with naming OC's especially since all of them are OC's by definition.  I just get locked up trying to come up with names for people, now the AI's...they are easy as thier names are just derivitizations of longer names.

Back to the trenches.
